We’ve done a lot of research among IT leaders from healthcare organisations. As the pressure on efficiency and productivity for healthcare is growing, it’s important that they can do their important work and don’t have to worry about their IT.

That’s why a digital workspace that combines all the information, documents and applications healthcare workers need, is so important. In this article you’ll discover the biggest frustrations among healthcare workers and how a digital workspace can help to create a happy work-life for them.

IT leader's perspective - healthcare UK

The biggest frustrations among healthcare workers

Recently, we’ve done research among 72 IT leaders in the United Kingdom to discover their biggest frustrations, and in the USA among 91 healthcare organisations. In the Netherlands we’ve already helped more than 3,000 organisations to save 1 hour per employee per week, so that they have more time for the client.

It became clear to us that care workers in all three countries share the same frustrations. We’re going to explain the biggest frustrations among healthcare workers and how they can solve these frustrations with a digital workspace

Dealing with legacy systems and moving to the cloud

Many healthcare organisations still work with legacy systems. They struggle with their transition the cloud, because they can’t move everything to the cloud yet. As a result, many healthcare workers work with a lot of different systems and have to switch more than a 1.000 times per day.

Luckily, there is a way to combine legacy and new systems within a digital workspace, like Workspace 365. As Workspace 365 is a hybrid workspace, it means that you can easily integrate the file server and applications running on Azure Virtual Desktop, Citrix Workspace. Next to integrating these legacy systems, you can combine them with all your new systems and applications in one overview.

With Clientless RDP we make sure that the applications are streamed remotely in the browser, without installing a client on your computer of having to log in first.

“A lot of employees struggle with working with different systems and the performance of these systems is not always great, which makes it difficult for our employees to focus on their work. This is really frustrating and one of the challenges we’re facing.”– IT leader from the USA

Log in multiple times

Imagine that a healthcare worker is looking for a client files, client information and their schedule. They probably have multiple log ins for all of those platforms. This will cost them valuable time and is exactly the reason why it’s a huge frustration among healthcare workers.

With Single Sign-On we enable healthcare workers to sign into their digital workspace and then it will automate all their other logins for them. It doesn’t matter if they open it on their phone, tablet or laptop, they don’t have to log in multiple times. This will increase their productivity, it’s secure and it improves their digital experience.

Research in the Netherlands showed that 37% of healthcare employees are annoyed about the fact that they have to log in every time they enter their workspace.

No central place for documents, applications and information

Another huge frustration is that they have no central place where they can find all their documents, applications and information. Which means, that they constantly have to search for the information they need.

With Workspace 365 we give healthcare workers one simple and personalised workspace, where they can instantly see all their documents, applications, intranet, latest news and information in one overview. All their web-, Windows and remote applications are accessible with one click.

“People want to focus on their work and the digital workspace should support them in that.” – IT leader of a healthcare organisation

Digital transformation in healthcare

In order to work with a digital workspace in the best way possible, digital transformation in healthcare is very important. This will help healthcare workers to significantly change their productivity, which allows them to focus on their work.

With digital transformation healthcare workers can use cutting-edge technology, which helps them to do research and improve clinical practices and treatments, use customer apps to support their patients’ health and wellbeing and a lot more.

We’ve written an article that will explain more about why digital transformation is so important for healthcare and we described the benefits and challenges of digital transformation.

Workspace 365 for healthcare

We know that it’s important for healthcare workers to have one overview of their client files, client reports and their planning. When you offer them a digital workspace which solves all their frustrations and show them what’s relevant to them, you create the best possible work-life for them.

Workspace 365 enables healthcare workers to:

  • Quickly find the information they need by uniting everything in one overview, and the possibility to find information with the Global Search Bar.
  • Easily access all applications by integrating Clientless RDP, Conditional Access and Single Sign-On.
  • Unite all their documents from different systems like SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive and the fileserver in one Document Management System.
  • Work from anywhere and any device, they have always to their personal digital workspace, which is very important for frontline workers.

Primary processes for healthcare

To simplify the primary processes for healthcare, Workspace 365 integrates Micro Apps. With Micro Apps you can integrate a client system or protocols in the digital workspace. This means that healthcare workers can instantly see their planning, client dossiers, protocols and information in one overview.

For the Dutch market we already integrate healthcare systems like ONS Nedap, Vilans KICK and ZenyaDoc. For the English market we are currently able to connect to APIs and are able to create connections when requested.

Secondary processes for healthcare

Next to primary processes, Workspace 365 also integrates secondary processes. This way, they can optimise and automate secondary processes like:

  • Support tickets
  • Requesting work clothing
  • Expense claims
  • Hour registration

With the Activity Feed API you can even set notifications from different platforms to allow or decline these secondary processes, without leaving the digital workspace.
